At the 27th annual Milken Institute Global Conference, Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and a leading figure in technology innovation articulated a nuanced stance on applying Artificial Intelligence in his space ventures and its broader implications for future technology.
Elon Musk was interviewed by Michael Milken earlier today. Here’s the full conversation with timestamps:
0:52 What will most impact humanity’s future
3:45 Becoming a multiplanetary species
5:34 Aliens & the precariousness of civilization
8:21 Freedom of speech

Speaking there, Musk explained that SpaceX and Starlink, the company’s satellite internet business, currently utilize almost no artificial intelligence.
“I mean, oddly enough, one of the areas where there’s almost no AI used is space exploration,” Musk replied. “So SpaceX uses basically no AI, Starlink does not use AI. I’m not against using it. We haven’t seen a use for it.”
Despite this current underutilization in his aerospace and satellite operations, Musk remains heavily invested in AI’s potential through other channels.
His startup, xAI, is focused on leveraging AI to accelerate human scientific discovery, suggesting a belief in its transformative capabilities, particularly in theoretical and experimental fields.
After hearing the interview, many users were found to mention the best quote of the entire discussion.

During the conference, Musk also voiced concerns about the Ethical development of AI technologies. Highlighting the potential dangers, he emphasized the importance of building AI systems that are truthful and not designed to deceive.
“AI should not be taught to lie, and it should not be taught to say things that are not true. Even if these things are politically incorrect, it should say what it believes is true,” he said.
This approach reflects Musk’s cautious optimism about AI’s ability to enhance human civilization without compromising ethical standards or truthfulness.
Many users on the internet were found agreeing with Musk’s point of view.

Moreover, Musk’s thoughts extended to the evolution of intelligence, predicting a future where digital intelligence will vastly surpass biological intelligence.
The tech giant said that the biological intelligence percentage “grows smaller with each passing month” and “eventually, the percentage of intelligence that is biological will be less than one percent.”
Despite his reservations about AI in space exploration, Musk has integrated AI technology into his other business ventures, including Tesla and the social media platform X.
Elon is a trip man. I’m so glad he’s spending time in this dimension. He doesn’t know it but he’s helping us into the next shift of consciousness that is right around the corner

At Tesla, although AI development has been paused for vehicles, he hopes to build a sentient labor robot known as Optimus. At X, he integrated his AI Chatbot Grok, which is designed to foster enhanced user interaction and content management.
Elon Musk’s cautious yet forward-looking perspectives on AI highlight a complex, strategic approach to its integration across different sectors of his technological empire.
Aliens and Mars. Agreed!!
Let us ignore the Mars like places on Earth, and instead, focus on inhabiting Mars.

While acknowledging the profound impacts AI could have on society, Musk continues to champion a balanced approach that weighs both the tremendous benefits and potential risks of artificial intelligence.
