Since the first time I used ChatGPT and Midjourney, I can’t say I’ve been blown away by any of the AI tools I’ve reviewed so far. But WebSim AI is arguably the most fun AI tool I’ve ever come across, and I’m surprised it’s so relatively little known.

WebSim AI is a web editor and simulator that can generate websites. Give it a prompt and it will create an interactive website simulated on a fake browser on the WebSim AI website. You can also enter any URL and it’ll create a fully functional website on the spot.

But the best way to create unique websites is to give WebSim AI detailed instructions with a prompt; you’d be surprised what it’s capable of. People have created everything from an Interdimensional TV viewer (from Rick and Morty) to a Plants vs. Zombies Emulator. Among the best AI tools available, WebSim AI stands out for its creativity and versatility.

In this guide, I’m going to explain how to use WebSim AI to generate any website you can think of. But before we get into that, we must talk about how WebSim AI works in the first place.

How WebSim AI Works?

WebSim is a simulation of the internet that can create any website you ask it to. By default, it uses Claude 3.5 Sonnet, which is very good at coding, to create an interactive website. It also uses generative AI to create text and images for the website.

When you go to the WebSim AI website, the first thing you see is a virtual Safari browser. In the browser window, you’ll see websites and web apps created by other people. At the top, you’ll see a search bar, but this search bar is a prompt field in disguise.

Most popular Gen AI tools create conventional media, such as text, images, video, and audio. What makes WebSIm AI particularly fun for me is the fact that it creates fully functional interactive computer programs—something I have not created with AI before.

Step 2: Type a URL, Prompt or Both

Start by typing a URL, a prompt, or both in the search bar. Once you hit Return or Enter, WebSim will start generating the website. Here’s an example prompt I game WebSim and the result I got:

Prompt: “Create a website called glassesforfaces.com that helps people find glasses for their face shapes. The home page displays 12 face shapes. Clicking a face shape takes the user to a page showing glasses that suit that face shape.”

Step 3: Explore The Pages

Click on any link on the website and WebSim will start generating that page. For instance, here’s what I got when I clicked Round:

Step 4: Create Custom Pages

If you’d like to create a new page that’s not on the website, you can do so by adding “/(page name)” in the address bar.

For example, I wanted to add a Sunglasses page to the website, so I “/sunglasses” to the address, making it “https://glassesforfaces.com/sunglasses.

Here’s the page I got:

It also automatically added the new Sunglasses page to the top menu, and included filters for the products!

Step 5: Edit The Pages

I’ll admit that these web pages are nothing to write home about. Edit everything about a webpage through prompts. The more details to give it, the more sophisticated the output.

Smarter people than me have created really impressive stuff on websim.ai. Be sure to check out existing web simulations for inspiration.

Step 6: Share and Download

Here’s the most impressive part: you can download the website in HTML! You can open the HTML file on any browser and potentially create a real website based on it.

What are the Tips for Creating a Website with WebSim AI?

Creating a website with WebSim AI can be an exciting and creative experience. To help you make the most out of this innovative tool, here are some tips to ensure you build engaging and functional websites:

  1. Define Your Goal: Before you start, decide what you want your website to achieve. Are you creating an informational site, an interactive experience, or something purely for entertainment? Having a clear purpose will guide your prompts and design choices.
  2. Draft a Layout: Sketch out a basic layout of how you want your site to look. This doesn’t have to be detailed but should give you a roadmap of what pages you need and how they should be connected.
  3. Be Specific: The more specific your prompts, the better WebSim AI can generate the content that meets your expectations. Instead of “Create a blog,” try “Create a blog with a navigation bar on top, three columns, and a blue and white color scheme.”
  4. Guide the AI: If you know exactly what you want on a page, describe it in detail. For example, “Add a contact form with fields for name, email, phone, and message on the contact page, and place it beside a sidebar with contact information.”
  5. Explore Designs: Don’t be afraid to experiment with different styles and layouts. WebSim AI can generate a range of designs from minimalist to complex. Try out several styles to see which best suits your vision.
